Long favoured by wildlife and sports photographers, the EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens has a large following. If you need a lens that can give extra reach to your photos – to allow you to tightly composed a head portrait of a lion asleep for example – but don’t want the weight associated with a prime lens, then the EF100-400mm lens should be considered.
In fast-moving environments the versatility of this lens comes into its own. You can zoom from a standard telephoto shot to a tight detail shot without restrictions. At the 400mm focal end, the perspective compression can be used to layer mountain ranges on top of each other. For sports and wildlife, the shallow depth of field available when using a long lens can really make your subject stand out from the background.
Using both fluorite and super ultra-low dispersion (super UD) elements, the imaging performance is high, with sharp, high contrast images and high resolution. The two mode image stabiliser allows you to switch from static subjects to panning with fast moving subjects and still achieve sharp results even when handholding the camera. The ring-type USM autofocus motor makes focusing quick and quiet, and will allow you to track your subjects with ease.
