This lens is a terrific choice for long-distance application out-door sports, wildlife, news photojournalism and so on looking for extra reach, the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM lens provides a surprisingly lightweight solution to getting closer to the action. The longest lens in the current EF lens range, this lens incorporates the very best technology available to make it worthy of the L-series badge and red ring.
A new 4-stop Image Stabiliser system ensures that even though the lens is most likely to be mounted on a tripod, you can get away with handholding it for short periods although we do not recommend it. It also includes an automatic panning detection to turn off the Image Stabiliser system in either horizontal or vertical orientation when you’re panning the camera – tracking a bird in flight for example. A tripod detection system also ensures that you won’t end up in a positive feedback loop if you mount the camera on tripod and leave the Image Stabiliser turned on.
The circular aperture provides smooth, consistent background blur to help your subjects stand out from the background for high impact images.
Compatible with both the Extender EF1.4xII and the Extender EF2xII you can achieve a 1120mm f/8 lens that will still autofocus on professional EOS-1 Series cameras, or 1600mm f/11 lens which can be used in manual focus mode for when subjects are really distant.
